Who We Fund

Background

Bunnies On the Bayou is looking for a few good projects to fund! We are officially opening our Call for Beneficiaries for Greater Houston-area non-profit organizations and projects to apply for funding. Each year, Bunnies sends a “Call of Beneficiaries” inviting local organizations to submit a grant proposal to satisfy a specific need for funding. In the last few years, Bunnies has selected between 10 to 15 beneficiaries to fund. The requirements for consideration are simple:

  • a description of the prospective organization or program
  • a specific amount requested to be funded
  • a copy of the latest tax filing
  • proof of 501(c)3 status

Notice: beneficiaries from Bunnies 41 will be carried over to Bunnies 43. The grant application for Bunnies 44 will become available in fall 2022.

The beneficiaries typically fall within 3 discernible categories: Health and Wellness, Community Development and Education. With this model of funding, Bunnies on the Bayou is able to support and satisfy a wide array of needs within the local LGBT community. Below is a sampling of some of the programs funded:

Health & Wellness

  • 2,000 direct care hours for individual suffering from disease related muscle loss
  • Over 5,000 meals for a free lunch program
  • Over 600 free health screenings

Community Development

  • Holiday food baskets for the needy
  • Gift cards for groceries and hygiene for elderly in need, living in hospice care
  • Facility enhancement expenses for a homeless shelter for LGBT youth

Education

  • $7,000 in post secondary scholarships for deserving graduating LGBT high school seniors
  • Program expenses for a summer camp designed for children with HIV
